General description

Platinum(II)acetylacetonate is widely used as a Ptsource and precursor in the preparation of nanocatalysts and films. It is alsoused as a catalyst in N-allylation reactions.

Application

Platinum(II)acetylacetonate can be used as an efficient catalyst:
  • In the preparation of N-allylanilines by the direct use of allylic alcohols. Anilines with electron-donating groups give good yields.
  • For selective N-allylation of 2,3-disubstituted indoles in water.
Pt-loaded ZnO thick films can be prepared by flame spray pyrolysis method using zinc naphthenate and platinum(II) acetylacetonate as precursors. These sensing films can be used for acetylene detection and show good selectivity towards carbon monoxide, hydrogen, and methane.

It can be used as a starting material in the preparation of platinum-lead nanoparticles supported on carbon. The PtPb/C catalyst exhibits enhanced electrochemical activity towards methanol and formic acid oxidation.
