Biochem/physiol Actions

MESM is a cell penetrant and non-toxic selective manganese ionophore that potently facilitates of manganese export from cells. MESM can be used to rapidly extract and quantify cellular manganese content in a non-lethal and selective MESMER (Manganese-Extracting Small Molecule Estimation Route) assay. MESM does not impacted Fura-2 AM fluorescence.
