Gene Information

human ... Vimentin(7431)

General description

Vimentin is a specific type III intermediate filament (IF) protein. It is abundantly expressed in mesenchymal cells. It is located on human chromosome 10p13.

The antibody detects endogenous level of total Vimentin protein.

Immunogen

Peptide sequence around aa. 452-456 (G-Q-V-I-N), according to the protein NP_003371.2

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vimentin helps to preserve the structure of cell and stability of tissue in mesenchymal cells. It is involved in tumorigenesis, EMT (epithelial mesenchymal transition) and the metastatic spread of cancer. It also controls infectious internalization of human papillomavirus 16 pseudovirions.

Features and Benefits

Evaluate our antibodies with complete peace of mind. If the antibody does not perform in your application, we will issue a full credit or replacement antibody. Learn more.

Target description

Vimentins are class-III intermediate filaments found in various non-epithelial cells, especially mesenchymal cells.

Physical form

Solution in phosphate-buffered saline containing 0.02% sodium azide and 50% glycerol

Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is considered to play an important role in cancer invasion and metastasis. The mRNA levels of an epithelial marker (E-cadherin), mesenchymal marker (vimentin), and Zeb-1 were measured in 11 gastric cancer cell lines. Functional analysis was performed
