General description

Flotillin 1(FLOT1), also known as reggie-2, is an estrogen responsive gene mapped to human chromosome 6p21.33. This gene codes for an integral membrane protein and a component of lipid rafts.
Flotillins are lipid raft associated proteins expressed mainly in adipose tissue, striated muscle tissues, and lung. It has a crucial role in several cellular processes like phagocytosis, endocytosis, insulin signalling and neuronal regeneration. Anti-flotillin 1 antibody can be used in immunobloting and immunolocalization. Rabbit anti- flotillin 1 antibody reacts specifically with flotillin 1 of rat, mouse and human.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acid resides 413-428 of mouse flotillin 1 with an N-terminal added cysteine, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is identical in rat and differs by one amino acid in human.

Application

Anti-flotillin 1 antibody can be used in immunofluorescence and western blotting.
Anti-flotillin 1 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblot analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Flotillin 1 (FLOT1) has a role in endocytosis. It also functions in growth factor signaling and activates mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling. In addition, it is also involved in phagocytosis, regulation of actin cytoskeleton and membrane trafficking. The protein has been associated with tumor progression and is expressed in many cancers, including breast cancer.

Target description

Flotillin 1 encodes a caveolae-associated, integral membrane protein. Caveolae are small domains on the inner cell membrane involved in vesicular trafficking and signal transduction.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.
