Human myeloma

Cell Line Description

Derived from the peripheral blood of a 61 year old male with multiple myeloma. The cells produce and secrete Ig lambda light chain.

Application

RPMI 8226 has been used:
  • to grow human myeloma cell lines
  • to evaluate the effect of 1-aryl-2-methylthioimidazolines (IIV) on the viability of RPMI 8226 cells
  • to measure cytokine production by bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) after contact with the RPMI 8226 cell line

Culture Medium

RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Maintain cultures between 3-9x100,000 cells/ml; 5% CO2; 37°C. After resuscitation cell debris will be present in culture. This will decrease with subsequent subculture.
