General description

Secobarbital, sold under the trade name Seconal®, is a barbiturate approved for treatment of epilepsy as well as temporary treatment of insomnia. The drug is also used as a preoperative anesthetic in short surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for numerous GC/MS or LC/MS testing applications from clinical toxicology to urine drug testing and forensic analysis.

Application

  • Barbiturate assay standardization: A research article presents a comprehensive protocol for high-throughput quantitative LC-MS/MS analysis of barbiturates, including Secobarbital, in human urine. This study is pivotal for clinical toxicology and forensic analysis, supporting accurate and efficient barbiturate detection (Gqamana and Zhang, 2024).

  • Development of analytical techniques for Secobarbital: Another study details the specific analysis of Secobarbital in urine using LC-MS/MS. This research enhances the understanding of barbiturate metabolism and excretion, critical for both clinical and research settings (Campbell et al., 2024).
