General description
Stigmasteryl glucoside (SG) comprises the glucose attached to the C3-hydroxyl of the sterol backbone. The acylstigmasteryl glucoside has a fatty acid at the C6 position of glucose. Palmitic acid is the acyl component in 16:0 stigmasteryl glucose and is a predominant acyl group in Arabidopsis seeds.
Biochem/physiol Actions
The levels of the 16:0 (palmitic) and other acyl steryl glycosides (ASG) are depleted when there is a mutation in the DP-glucose:sterol glucosyltransferase (UGT) enzyme.
