Biochem/physiol Actions

Thyroglobulin has been shown to regulate the transcription of iodide porters including sodium iodide symporter and pendrin.
Thyroglobulin is a major protein involved with iodine metabolism. It consists of an iodine-containing protein that is stored in the thyroid gland and is converted into circulating thyroxines when the thyroid is stimulated by TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) from the pituitary. Thyroglobulin is often used as a carrier protein for the production of antibodies. Its advantage as a carrier protein comes from its large number of tyrosine residues that can be used for conjugation using the diazo reaction.

Iodide transport by thyrocytes involves porters on the apical and basal surfaces of the cell facing the follicular lumen and bloodstream, respectively. Recent work identifies pendrin as an apical porter and shows that follicular thyroglobulin is a transcriptional regulator of
Antibody production and immunocytochemical localization of amino acid transporters.

Thyroid plays an important role in the endocrine system of the human body. Its characterization by diffuse optics can open new path ways in the non-invasive diagnosis of thyroid pathologies. Yet, the absorption spectra of tyrosine and thyroglobulin-key tissue constituents

Thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement is a major tool for the follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients; however, in patients who do not undergo radioactive iodine (RAI) ablation, normal ultrasensitive Tg levels measured under levothyroxine treatment (usTg/l-T4) are not well defined.
