General description

VEGF-C (vascular endothelial growth factor-C) is a member of the VEGF family of structurally related proteins. The gene encoding this protein is localized on mouse chromosome 8. The product here (VEGF-C from mouse) is a 129 amino acid recombinant protein that lacks the N-terminal and C-terminal extensions and contains only the middle third VEGF homology domain. Mouse VEGF-C exhibits about 85% homology with human and 97% homology with rat VEGF-C.

Biochem/physiol Actions

VEGF-C (vascular endothelial growth factor-C) has a role in lymphangiogenesis. It functions via the VEGF receptor-3 (VEGFR-3). Studies have shown that lymphatic endothelial cells do not form sprouting capillaries without VEGF-C. It has also been observed that this protein stimulates tumor lymphangiogenesis in xenotransplanted and transgenic mouse models of cancer.

Physical form

Lyophilized from acetic solution with 50 μg BSA per 1 μg VEGF-C.
