Gene Information

human ... SYK(6850)

General description

Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is a member of the non-receptor tyrosine kinase family. It is usually expressed in epithelial breast tissues and hematopoietic cells. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 9q22.

Immunogen

Peptide sequence around phosphorylation site of tyrosine 323 (N-P-Y(p)-E- P), according to the protein SYK.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is a tumor suppressor gene that helps to prevent the development and metastasis of breast cancer cells. It participates in B-cell receptor signaling. The protein helps to phosphorylate the α-tubulin subunits of microtubules. SYK aids in the coupling of receptors for antigen-antibody complexes. It also modulates cell proliferation and differentiation.

Lysophospholipids have emerged as biologically important chemoattractants capable of directing lymphocyte development, trafficking, and localization. Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a major lysophospholipid found systemically, and its levels are elevated in certain pathological settings, such as cancer and infections. In this
