Ammonium persulfate is a strong oxidizing agent frequently used with tetramethylethylenediamine (TEMED) to catalyze the polymerization of acrylamide in making polyacrylamide gels. Ammonium persulfate is used in a variety of applications that depend upon oxidation and photooxidation reactions.
