Potassium (meta)periodate exhibits strong oxidizing properties in acidic medium.

Application

Potassium (meta)periodate may be employed as an oxidizing reagent for the oxidation of starch. It may be employed as oxidizer in the iodine bromide method for the volumetric determination of following compounds:
  • potassium iodide
  • arsenious oxide
  • antimonous oxide
  • stannous chloride
  • mercurous chloride
  • sodium sulphite
  • sodium thiosulphate
  • sodium tetrathionate
  • ferrous sulphate
