General description

2-Butanol is a secondary alcohol. Dehydration of 2-butanol has been employed as a probe reaction to investigate the acid and redox properties of WOx−ZrO2 catalysts. Its dehydration over a series of hydroxyapatite catalysts has been studied.

Application

2-Butanol was used to investigate the influence of alcohol hydrogen donor on methyl furan production, via catalytic transfer hydrogenation of furfural.
It may be used to investigate the influence of hydrogen donor on methyl furan production.

Diastereomeric adducts between (S)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-ethanol and R and S 2-butanol, formed by supersonic expansion, have been investigated by means of a combination of mass selected resonant two-photon ionization-spectroscopy and infrared depletion spectroscopy. Chiral recognition is evidenced by the specific spectroscopic signatures
