General description

Methylene Blue (MB) is a basic histological dye.

Application

Methylene Blue hydrate has been used:
  • in the preparation of methylene blue (MB) solution to stain zymograms
  • to label the injection site in the tissue slices
  • to pre-treat mice via oral gavage to study its effects on noise-induced hearing loss

Biochem/physiol Actions

Methylene blue (MB) plays a key role in microbiology and pharmacology. It is mainly used in staining live organisms and in methemoglobinemia treatment. MB can be considered as a possible and safe vasoconstrictor. It has several applications in textile, paper and hair coloring sectors.
