General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) carries one phosphate in its headgroup and has two acyl chains, that are esterified to a glycerol. Hence it carry a negative charge.

Application

08:0 PG (1,2-dioctanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol)) may be used as a short-/odd-fatty acyl chain analog to spike the lipid mixture for the quantification of a natural lipid mixture (egg PG).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) can serve as a specific ligand for 4E10 (neutralizing antibody) in the crystal structures. 08:0 PG serves as cryoprotectant in crystallization studies.
