Application
Sera from rat has been used:
- in food folate analysis to prepare rat serum conjugase to deconjugate folates in extract samples
- in the preparation of deconjugase for enzyme digestion
- in ex vivo experiments to analyze rat serum spiked with intravenous iron preparations
Biochem/physiol Actions
Rat serum supports the reaggregation of rat islet cells into tridimensional pseudo islets useful for transplantation studies. It functions as an inhibitor of the non-specific binding of rat antibodies in immunochemical techniques.

Rat islet cells in culture are able to form tridimensional aggregates with an architecture and functional activity similar to native islets: pseudoislets. Pseudoislets represent an alternative source for islet transplantation, because their transplant results in a long term allograft acceptance

Intravenous iron is a critical component of anaemia management. However, currently available preparations have been associated with the release of free iron, a promoter of bacterial growth and oxidative stress. We determined the molecular weight, dialysability and capacity for free

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS/endotoxin) is a potent immunologic stimulant. Many commercial-grade reagents used in research are not screened for LPS contamination. LPS induces a wide spectrum of proinflammatory responses in microglia, the immune cells of the brain. Recent studies have demonstrated that
