Biochem/physiol Actions

Type I interferons (IFNα, IFNβ and IFNω) are pleotropic cytokines that mediate their cellular activities by binding to specific Type I IFN receptors. The functions of IFNα/ IFNα Receptor Type I axis include antiproliferative, antiviral and immunomodulatory activities.

Interferons alpha and beta as immune regulators--a new look.

Cytokine & growth factor reviews, 7(2), 143-151 (1996-08-01)
The type-I interferon receptor is a multisubunit receptor of the cytokine receptor superfamily. The production of specific monoclonal antibodies against the receptor and the cloning of different receptor subunits have contributed to understanding the type-I interferon receptor structure and function.

The Journal of biological chemistry, 271(39), 23630-23633 (1996-09-27)
All Type I interferons (IFNalpha, IFNbeta, IFNomega) bind to the Type I IFN receptor (IFNR) and elicit a common set of signaling events, including activation of the Jak/Stat and IRS pathways. However, IFNbeta selectively induces the association of the alpha
