生化/生理作用
某些物种如小鼠、大鼠和爪蟾具有两个非等位基因胰岛素基因。这些基因是都具功能性的Ins1和Ins2。它们编码在胰腺中分别以1:2比例而生成的胰岛素。这两个基因在小鼠中具有差异表达。Ins1基因定位于端粒区的小鼠19号染色体。胰腺中合成的胰岛素对维持葡萄糖稳态至关重要。Ins-1和Ins-2表达的缺失可导致胰岛素缺乏的小鼠患有糖尿病、酮酸中毒、肝脂肪变性和生长迟缓。
