L-酪氨酸用于酪氨酸羟化酶(TH)酶活性测定。它还用作霍乱弧菌菌株生长培养基中酪氨酸酶的底物,以刺激黑色素形成。它可以用作(-)-MY 336a 合成的前体。MY 336a,β-肾上腺素能受体拮抗剂,最早是从 加蓬链霉菌 KY2234(ATCC 15282)的培养液中分离的。它可用于合成 3-溴-L-酪氨酸和 3,5-二溴-L-酪氨酸。
