General description

Potassium sorbate is a food additive, used for the prevention of food spoilage originating from bacteria, molds or yeasts. It exists in a variety of products such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and employed for preserving processed foods including fruit juices, soda, soy sauce, ketchup, etc.
Potassium sorbate is a preservative, commonly used in a variety of food and beverages. It is a food antimicrobial agent, which can act effectively along a wide pH range to inhibit the growth of yeast, molds and some bacteria.

Application

Potassium sorbate may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in food, beverages and soft drinks using chromatography techniques.
