General description

HAYFLICK Agar is supplemented with horse serum to provide useable cholesterol and fatty acids. Deoxyribonucleic acid provides purine and pyrimidine bases, which cannot be synthesized by the mycoplasmas. Phenol red changes the color of the medium to yellow or purple, indicating the growth of mycoplasmas. Penicillin inhibits the growth of accompanying bacterial flora.

Application

HAYFLICK Agar is recommended for the general detection of mycoplasmas in pharmaceutical products, especially in bulk vaccines, cell banks, and virus cultures.
