General description

The MQuant® Chromate test (formally MColortest®) measures chromium(VI) present in the sample as chromate or dichromate ions in wastewater and percolating water, groundwater and surface water, industrial water and drinking water.

Method
In weakly phosphoric solution chromium(VI) ions react with diphenylcarbazide to form chromium(III) and diphenylcarbazone, which form a red-violet complex. The chromate concentration is measured semiquantitatively by visual comparison of the color of the measurement solution with the color fields of a color card. The unique brilliance of the print and their fine color graduation allow precise analyses, even at the lower end of the concentration range. Due to the long test tubes a sensitive measurement range can be covered.
The test measures chromium(VI) present in the sample as chromate or dichromate ions in wastewater and percolating water, groundwater and surface water, industrial water and drinking water.

Application

  • Environmental Monitoring: Chromate tests are essential for monitoring chromium(VI) levels in water and soil. These tests help in assessing environmental pollution caused by industrial discharge and are crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Recent research has focused on the simultaneous extraction of phosphate and chromate using nano mixed (Al-Fe-Zr) oxide adsorbents, demonstrating enhanced sensitivity and accuracy in detecting chromate contamination in water (Pala et al., International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, 2021).
