General description

GranuCult® Triple sugar iron agar is recommended for the identification of Gram-negative enterobacteria. It contains lactose, sucrose, and glucose as fermentable carbohydrates. The pH indicator, phenol red, indicates the degradation of sugars to produce acids by the varying color of the medium (from red to yellow). Several species of bacteria reduce thiosulfate to hydrogen sulfide that combines with ferric ions of iron salt to produce iron sulfide, an insoluble black precipitate.

Application

GranuCult® Triple sugar iron agar is suitable for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae in meat, meat products, and milk. It is commonly used as a biochemical test in characterization of a microorganism. Depending on the extent of fermentation and production of gas or production of H2S, the type of the microorganism can be determined.

Features and Benefits

  • Safe and sustainable due to reduced risks associated with fine dust and toxic substance inhalation, resulting in a safer work environment
  • Excellent wettability, solubility, and free flowing properties
  • Convenient, with minimal component separation and clumping, even under warm or humid conditions
  • High batch-to- batch reproducibility
  • Prolonged shelf life of up to five years
  • High number of test strains exceeding all regulatory demands
  • Granulation technology allowing many supplements to be included, with no need to add these separately
