General description
The Human Ubiquitin+1 ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human Ubiquitin+1 in serum, plasma, cell culture supernatants and urine.
The RPS27A (ribosomal protein S27a) gene is mapped to human chromosome 2p16.1. The protein complex encoded contains ubiquitin at the N-terminus and a C-terminal ribosomal protein S27a.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27a), also known as ubiquitin carboxyl extension protein 1 (UBCEP-1), is involved in ribosome biogenesis and post-translational modifications of proteins. The encoded protein enhances cell proliferation, controls cell cycle progression and inhibits apoptosis of leukemia cells. Overexpression of RPS27A results in advanced-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute leukemia (AL). Hence drugs targeting RPS27a combining with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) might be a potential treatment for TKI resistant CML patients. Elevated expression of UBCEP-1, which is a component of ubiquitin pathway, promotes prostate carcinoma development, via increasing the degradation of proteins involved in growth inhibition or apoptosis. RPS27a might act as a unique stress sensor in cells, which results in increased p53 activity leading to inhibition of cell cycle progression.
The ribosomal protein S27a (Rps27a) possesses two main functions, it is responsible for ribosome formation and takes part in post translational modification of proteins. DNA damage elevates the RPS27A gene expression. The RPS27A gene is upregulated in chronic myelogenous leukemia and colorectal cancer. It is known to stimulate cell cycle by inducing cellular checkpoints through p53 and cell proliferation and prevent apoptosis in leukemia cells.
