Biochem/physiol Actions

Cleaves the substrates consisting of consensus sequence VEID.
Spontaneously undergoes autoprocessing to yield the subunits associated to form the active enzyme.
Useful in screening caspase inhibitors, studying enzyme regulation, determining specificity of caspase substrates, or as a positive control in caspase activity assays.

Unit Definition

One unit will hydrolyze 1 nmol of the caspase substrate VEID-pNA to VEID and p-nitroaniline per hour at pH 7.2 at 37 °C.

Physical form

Contains 0.052% ammonium sulfate, 0.158% Tris−HCl, 0.76% sodium chloride.

Apoptotic mechanisms are centre stage for the development of injury in the immature brain, and caspases have been shown to play a pivotal role during brain development and in response to injury. The inhibition of caspases using broad-spectrum agents such
