Phosphorylated phosphatidylinositol (PIP) lipids are low-abundance lipids of which phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2) is rare. PI(3,5)P2 is localized to many cellular compartments.

Phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2) is a signaling molecule involved in various cellular pathways. It is significant for cellular homeostasis and adaptation. Insufficiency of PI(3,5)P2 is associated with nervous system disorders.
