Gene Information

human ... NES(10763)

General description

Nestin (NES) is a class VI cytoplasmic protein which is expressed in the intermediate filaments. It has a molecular weight of 177.4kDa. The gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 1q23.1 and has four exons.

Immunogen

Nestin recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

All Prestige Antibodies®Powered by Atlas Antibodies is developed and validated by the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) project . Each antibody is tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues. These images can be viewed on the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) site by clicking on the Image Gallery link. We also provide Prestige Antibodies® protocols and other useful information.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Nestin (NES) functions as a modulator of proteins which are involved in cell growth. It also interacts with other proteins of the intermediate filament. NES has been studied as a marker of neural stem cells.

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.

Recently, several promising treatments for high-grade gliomas (HGGs) failed to provide significant benefit when translated from the preclinical setting to patients. Improving the animal models is fundamental to overcoming this translational gap. To address this need, we developed and comprehensively

Nestin, an intermediate filament protein, is a key regulator of various extracellular proteins that play important roles in cell growth and differentiation. In recent years, nestin has been widely accepted as a molecular marker for neural stem/progenitor cells. However, its

Cerebral ischemia/reperfusion is known to activate endogenous neural stem/progenitor cell (NS/PC) proliferation, but the mechanisms leading to NS/PC proliferation remain unknown. Astrocytes are vital components of the neurogenic niche and play a crucial role in regulating NS/PC proliferation and differentiation.
