Cell Line Origin

Mouse carcinoma

Cell Line Description

Established from the explant of a 7 day old tumour from the parental Ehrlich-Lettre Ascites carcinoma. Prior to development, strain E was subjected to a schedule of seven mouse passages and six in vitro passages over a period of 17 months. The cells exhibit an unusually high mean chromosome number and possess the marker chromosomes present in the parental Ehrlich tumour. This cell line may be of use in comparative testing of anti-tumour agents in vivo and in vitro.

Application

Anti-tumour test and tumourigenicity studies

Culture Medium

NCTC 135 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-5x10,000 cells/cm2using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. Media change 3 times a week.
