General description
Albumin is present abundantly in serum. Porcine serum albumin (PSA) comprises a flexible C-terminal region compared to other albumins.
Application
Albumin from porcine serum has been used:
- as a non-hazardous protein to test its effect on T84 polarized intestinal monolayers and Caco2 polarized intestinal monolayers barrier integrity in trans-Epithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) assay
- to test its effect on the human intestinal epithelial cell lines
- to test its interaction with the biodegradable ester-functionalized gemini surfactant 16-E2-16 using ultraviolet (UV)-visible and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy measurements
Biochem/physiol Actions
Albumin binds to many blood associated proteins. Porcine serum albumin (PSA) is regarded as a major allergen. PSA is used in the immunosensors, molecularly imprinted nanogels (MIP-NGs) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) protein-based detection for assessing contamination, especially in meat products.

Prepared from albumin (A2764).

Accurate, simple, and valuable analytical methods for detection of food contamination are rapidly expanding to evaluate the validity of food product quality because of ethnic considerations and food safety. Herein molecularly imprinted nanogels (MIP-NGs), capable of porcine serum albumin (PSA)

We describe a method for the efficient and selective identification of DNA containing the 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) modification. This protocol takes advantage of two proteins: T4 β-glucosyltransferase (β-gt), which converts 5-hmC to β-glucosyl-5-hmC (β-glu-5-hmC), and J-binding protein 1 (JBP1), which specifically

Although the glycocalyx has been implicated in wall shear stress (WSS) mechanotransduction, the role of glycocalyx components in nitric oxide (NO) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production remains unclear. Here, we tested the hypothesis that glycocalyx is implicated in both

The notion of functional interactions between the alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine (alpha7 nACh) and the cannabinoid systems is emerging from recent in vitro and in vivo studies. Both the alpha7 nACh receptor and the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) are highly expressed
