General description
Potassium iodide (KI) is an inorganic potassium salt. KI is a colorless solid having cubic crystal system. It has been prepared by reacting hydroiodic acid with potassium hydroxide or potassium carbonate. Alumina loaded with potassium iodide has been employed as catalyst for the preparation of biodiesel by the transesterification reaction of soybean oil with methanol.
Application
Potassium iodide (KI) may be used in the preparation of standard iodide stock solution for the size exclusion chromatographic method for the estimation of iodide. It may be used in the spectrophotometric determination of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in plasma.
