General description

Nerve Growth factor (NGF) is a growth factor that is essential for the development and maintenance of the nervous system. NGF is composed of three non-covalently linked α, β and γ subunits. The β subunit is responsible for the biological functions of NGF. Nerve growth factor (NGF) binds to either to NGF receptor (NGFR) or the Trk receptor and can elicit biological responses through each of the receptors independently. NGF is important in the survival and differentiation of neurons and neural crest-derived cells during embryonic and early postnatal development and maintenance of peripheral neurons. NGF is also implicated in inflammation and allergic reactions . Anti-Nerve Growth Factor-β antibody recognizes rat NGF-β. The antibody shows less than 1% cross reactivity with recombinant human β-NGF.
in the presence of 10.0μg/ml of recombinat rat β-NGF using the human erythroleukemic TF-1 cell line.

Immunogen

recombinant rat β-nerve growth factor expressed in Sf 21 cells.

Application

Anti-NGF-β antibody may be used for neutralization assays; the ND50 is ~0.02-0.1 μg/ml. For immunoblotting the recommended antibody concentration is 0.1-0.2 μg/ml. The antibody is suitable for immunohistochemistry at a working concentration of 5-15 μg/ml. For ELISA, antibody concentration of 0.2-0.8 μg/ml may be used. Antibody dilution of 1:500 was used for immunoblotting of extracts of rat nerve cells.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing carbohydrates.
