General description

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that seems to be involved in the late stages of CTL generation. Other biological functions also include amplification and the inflammatory response. Combination therapies including IL-6 have been shown to have positive effects on specific malignant tumor types. The accumulation of IL-6 in the CNS is usually detrimental and can contribute to pathology of CNS diseases. IL-6 signaling is negatively regulated by TGF-beta, which down regulates STAT1, STAT3 and ICAM-1 expression. IL-6 expression has been linked to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is also the primary clinical target for IBD. Clinical use of an antibody for the IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) has been promising in treating rheumatoid arthritis, systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis and Castleman’s disease.

Immunogen

Human IL-6 fused to the soluble domain of the IL-6R.

Deficiency of the antiaging gene Klotho (KL) induces renal damage and hypertension through unknown mechanisms. In this study, we assessed whether KL regulates expression of CYP11B2, a key rate-limiting enzyme in aldosterone synthesis, in adrenal glands. We found that haplodeficiency
