General description

Found only in mammals, Immunoglobulin E (IgE) plays an essential role in allergic reactions and is predominantly associated with type 1 hypersensitivity. IgE is the least abundant immunoglobulin isotype in normal individuals, present at only 0.05% of IgG serum concentrations. It is capable of triggering robust immune reactions, with up to 10 times the typical level detected in the serum of atopic patients, although increased levels occur only in approximately 50% of patients with allergic disorders. IgE binds with high affinity to FcεRI, found primarily on mast cells and basophils, priming the cells to recognize specific antigens such as dust mites, pet dander or pollen. Once primed and with repeated exposure to the same antigen, these cells release molecules such as histamines, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes, resulting in an “allergic reaction”.

Although the mechanisms of this immune response are well understood, continued research is needed to understand the varying degrees of allergic responses – from mild rhinitis to anaphylaxis. Consequently, the MILLIPLEX® Human IgE Bead Single Plex Kit enables you to measure levels of IgE in only 50 μL of 1:50 diluted human serum or plasma, saving both time and precious sample.

Immunology multiplex assays, like MILLIPLEX® assays, allow researchers to investigate more immune biomarkers simultaneously, saving time and resources. This is especially critical to immunology research, where numerous analytes play a role in different pathways.

See how MILLIPLEX® multiplex immunoassays offer researchers the ability to simultaneously quantitate a large number of human cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors, and detect human immunoglobulins against SARS-CoV-2 antigens, to better understand the immune response to COVID-19, including cytokine storm.

Our team of scientists has experience in all areas of research including Life Science, Material Science, Chemical Synthesis, Chromatography, Analytical and many others.
