General description

Buprenorphine glucuronide is a major urinary metabolite of the semi-synthetic opioid, buprenorphine. This Certified Spiking Solution® is suitable for use in LC/MS or GC/MS applications for clinical toxicology, forensic analysis, urine drug testing, or pain prescription monitoring. Buprenorphine is used for the management of moderate chronic pain and for the treatment of opioid addiction.

Application

  • Simplified processing and rapid quantification of buprenorphine, norbuprenorphine, and their conjugated metabolites in human plasma using UPLC-MS/MS: This study underscores the importance of buprenorphine glucuronide as a standard in pharmacokinetic research, facilitating accurate assessments of buprenorphine exposure during opioid use disorder treatment (Zhao et al., 2024).

  • Quantitative Analysis of Buprenorphine, Norbuprenorphine, and Their Glucuronide Metabolites in Human Urine: Highlights the application of buprenorphine glucuronide in developing methods for analyzing opioid metabolites in urine, crucial for monitoring drug therapy and compliance in clinical settings (Gqamana et al., 2024).

  • Interaction between buprenorphine and norbuprenorphine in neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome: The research uses buprenorphine glucuronide to study drug interactions in treating neonatal opioid withdrawal, demonstrating its significance in neonatal pharmacological research and therapy optimization (Tobacyk et al., 2023).

The disposition of buprenorphine has been studied in two patient groups to assess the influence of impaired renal function on the metabolism of buprenorphine and two of its metabolites, buprenorphine-3-glucuronide (B3G) and norbuprenorphine (NorB). A single i.v. dose of 0.3

The opioid partial agonist medication, buprenorphine (BUP), and its primary metabolite, norbuprenorphine (NBUP), are extensively glucuronidated. Sensitive analytical methods that include determination of buprenorphine-3-glucuronide (BUPG) and norbuprenorphine-3-glucuronide (NBUPG) are needed to more fully understand the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of buprenorphine.

Protocols

To optimize hydrolysis using β-glucuronidase, factors such as incubation time, temperature, hydrolysis pH, enzyme source, and enzyme concentration must be evaluated for each glucuronide metabolite to be analyzed.

Our team of scientists has experience in all areas of research including Life Science, Material Science, Chemical Synthesis, Chromatography, Analytical and many others.
