General description

Sea salts are unrefined salt, which is harvested from ocean and saltwater deposit. It is used to maintain the body′s salt balance.

Application

Sea salts has been used:
  • for the preparation of artificial seawater to culture microalgae
  • to assess nitrogen fixation rates
  • as a supplement in Hugh and Leifson′s oxidation fermentation (OF) basal medium

Usually used at approx. 40 g/L for culturing marine bacteria.

Other Notes

An artificial salt mixture closely resembling the composition of the dissolved salts of ocean water.

Preparation Note

Usually used at ~ 40 g/L for culturing marine bacteria.
After dissolving, adjust pH to 8.2 using 0.1 N solution of sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid.
