Application

Osteopontin from mouse has been used:
  • to study its role in a mouse model of preterm brain injury
  • as a positive control to analyze the relationship between the vascular calcification process and osteopontin (OPN) overexpression in the neointima of atherosclerotic plaques
  • to study its interaction on the crystal growth process of hydroxyapatite in agarose hydrogels

Biochem/physiol Actions

Osteopontin (OPN) is a secreted, highly acidic, calcium binding, phosphorylated glycoprotein that is chemotactic for macrophages, smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells and glial cells. In activated macrophages, OPN inhibits nitric oxide production and cytotoxicity. Human, mouse, rat, pig and bovine OPN share 40% amino acid sequence identity.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 2.5 mg bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to mediate 293 cell adhesion.

The initial process in liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy involves the recruitment of immune cells and the release of cytokines. Osteopontin (OPN), a pro-inflammatory protein, plays critical roles in immune cell activation and migration. Although OPN has been implicated in
