General description

Potassium persulfate is a water-soluble inorganic salt that releases oxygen and exhibits a strongly exothermic reaction. It is stable at room temperature but decomposes at high temperatures. Potassium persulfate is commonly used as an oxidant and in the polymerization of numerous monomers, mainly in the field of hydrogel synthesis.

Application

  • Aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence enhancement of Ag-MOG for amyloid β 42 sensing.: This study demonstrates the use of potassium persulfate in the aggregation-induced electrochemiluminescence enhancement of Ag-MOG for sensitive detection of amyloid β 42, relevant in Alzheimer′s disease research (Zheng et al., 2023).

  • Optimization of preparation conditions and performance of a new degradable soil water retaining agent.: This research investigates the role of potassium persulfate in optimizing the preparation and performance of a novel degradable soil water-retaining agent, highlighting its potential in agricultural applications (Yumang et al., 2024).

  • A superabsorbent and pH-responsive copolymer-hydrogel based on acemannan from Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis M.): A smart material for drug delivery.: This article explores the synthesis of a pH-responsive hydrogel incorporating potassium persulfate, demonstrating its application in drug delivery systems (Irfan et al., 2024).

  • Silver-Catalyzed Carbofluorination of Olefins and α-Fluoroolefins with Carbamoyl Radicals.: The study describes a novel silver-catalyzed carbofluorination reaction facilitated by potassium persulfate, offering advancements in synthetic organic chemistry (Vincent & Brioche, 2024).

  • Sustained release delivery of favipiravir through statistically optimized, chemically cross-linked, pH-sensitive, swellable hydrogel.: This research utilizes potassium persulfate in the development of a pH-sensitive hydrogel for the controlled release of favipiravir, enhancing therapeutic efficacy (Khan et al., 2024).

Potassium persulfate is used as an oxidizing agent:

  • in the oxidation of 4-Chloro-3-methylphenol in pressurized hot water and supercritical water in a continuous flow system.
  • in determinations of dissolved organic carbon.
Potassium persulfate (KPS) has also been used as a redox initiator :

  • in the graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch in aqueous solution.
  • in the synthesis of sulfate radical anions via polymerization processes.
  • as polymerization and radical initiator in the synthesis of polyacrylamide-Laponite-lead dioxide nanoparticle hydrogel composites by acrylamide as monomers.
