Gene Information

human ... SLC6A4(6532)

General description

Solute carrier family 6 member 4 (SLC6A4), also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine transporter (5-HTT), is an integral membrane protein, encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 17q11.2. The encoded protein is a member of SLC6 gene family and is mainly expressed in brain and blood cells.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence C-LHQGERETWGK from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_001036.1.

Application

Anti-SLC6A4/5HTT/SERT antibody produced in goat has been used in immunolabelling and Western blotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Solute carrier family 6 member 4 (SLC6A4) catalyzes the transport of neurotransmitter serotonin from the synaptic space into presynaptic neurons. It also plays a vital role in mood and anxiety regulation. Mutation on the gene might alter the expression of serotonin (5HT) in the synaptic cleft, which ultimately leads to schizophrenia. Allelic variations in the gene increase the risk of susceptibility to autism and rigid-compulsive behaviors.
