Cell Line Description
Granular fibroblasts. Derived from a human melanoma by Prof. C Grose (1978). The cells support growth of varicella-zoster virus (VZV) isolates at 36°C although viral growth is optimal at 32°C.

EMEM (EBSS) + 2mM Glutamine + 1% Non Essential Amino Acids (NEAA) + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Subculture Routine
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:4 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin/EDTA (0.5% trypsin in 0.53mM EDTA in modified Puck′s saline A); 5% CO2; 37°C.
