General description

Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic potash, is a water soluble strong base. The electron scattering in KOH has been investigated. Its infrared spectrum has been recorded and analyzed. The impact of surface functionalization of active carbons using KOH has been studied. Its role as a catalyst in the Michael addition reaction has been explored.

Application

Potassium hydroxide (KOH) has been used to prepare methanolic-KOH that is employed in a protocol for saponification of fruit extracts.
KOH has been used for adjusting pH during the preparation of the following:
  • Murashige and Skoog (MS) agar plates
  • MS liquid medium
  • MES ((2-(N-morpholino)-ethanesulfonic acid hydrate) solution
  • microtubule stabilizing buffer (MTSB)
  • 4% paraformaldehyde fixative (PFA)
