General description

Iodomethane also known as methyl iodide is a methylating agent. Its potential as an alternative to methyl bromide for soil fumigation has been studied. The mechanism of the gas-phase reaction of iodomethane with chlorine atom has been described. The dynamics of photolysis of iodomethane have been studied using multiphoton ionization. The interaction of iodomethane with Cu(111) surface has been analyzed.

Application

Iodomethane (Methyl iodide) has been used to generate iodide water cluster reagent ions for ToF-CIMS (time-of-flight chemical ionization mass spectrometry) analysis. It may be used to prepare (E)-1-iodopropene and N,N,N-trimethylchitosan (TMC).
