General description

Tryptone is a general-purpose peptone produced by the digestion of casein with the protease trypsin. It is used for the cultivation of most bacteria, fungi, and some protozoa. Casein is the main protein of milk, and a rich source of nitrogenous nutrients (in the amino acids). This peptone is recommended for culture media in analytical microbiology and in industrial fermentation.

Application

Tryptone from enzymatic casein digest can be developed for use in molecular genetic media such as – NZCYM, NZYM and NZM broth. The enriched NZ media can be used to: -
  • Grow recombinant strains of E. coli
  • Propagate theta bacteriophages
