General description

Chelating agent selective for Ca2+. Binds one cation per molecule. Induces apoptosis in pheochromocytoma (PC12) cells.

Application

  • Live imaging of intra-lysosome pH in cell lines and primary neuronal culture using a novel genetically encoded biosensor.: This study presents a genetically encoded biosensor for real-time monitoring of lysosomal pH changes, potentially enhanced by buffering agents like EGTA. The findings may offer insights into cellular mechanisms influenced by calcium chelation (Ponsford et al., 2021).

  • Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Pleurotus ostreatus Reveals Great Metabolic Differences in the Cap and Stipe Development and the Potential Role of Ca(2+).: The research highlights the role of calcium in fungal development, with EGTA potentially influencing these biological processes through calcium chelation (Zhu et al., 2019).
