General description

Cholesteryl phosphocholine (CholPC) structure has hydrophobic region and a large polar head group. Chol-C10-PC (10-cholesteryloxy decylphosphocholine) has decylphosphocholine attached to cholesterol.

Biochem/physiol Actions

The presence of phosphocholine in the head group of cholesteryl phosphocholine (CholPC) enables shielding of the lipid complex from interaction with water.

We prepared cholesteryl phosphocholine (CholPC) by chemical synthesis and studied its interactions with small (ceramide and cholesterol) and large headgroup (sphingomyelin (SM) and phosphatidylcholine) colipids in bilayer membranes. We established that CholPC could form bilayers (giant uni- and multilamellar vesicles
