General description
Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/polyvidone is used in cosmetics, medical and hair care products. Povidone iodine, a compound of polyvinylpyrrolidone and iodine can be used as an antiseptic and antibacterial agent. Dry form of PVP is available as a light flaky hygroscopic powder, which can absorb up to 40% of water by its weight.
Application
Polyvinylpyrrolidone has been used as a component in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) for immunostaining. It has also been used as a component in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) to wash parthenogenetic embryos for immunocytochemical analysis.
Other Notes
Polyvinylpyrrolidone is a component of Denhardt′s Solution and is included at a concentration of 1% (w/v) in the standard 50X stock solution.
