General description

Activins are members of the TGF-β family. Activins are dimeric proteins composed of 2 β subunits. Acitivn B contains 2 β B subunits. Activins bind to the Type II Activin receptor triggering phosphorylation of Type I Acitivn receptor (ALK4) and activation of downstream pathways such as proliferation and apoptosis.
Activins are pleotropic cytokines that belong to the TGF-β superfamily. There are three forms of activin, homodimeric activin A (βA-βA), activin B (βB-βB) and the heterodimeric activin AB (βA-βB). Activins bind to type I (ActRI) or type II (ActRII) receptor complexes. The cellular targets of Activin are Smad-2, -3 and -4 that form hetromeric complex and regulate transcription of target genes. The other pathways mediated by activins are Rho A, MAPK, p38 and JNK pathways. Activins play vital role in regulation of growth, differentiation, erythropoiesis, angiogenesis, survival or neural cells and tissue repair. Activin B is reported to promote wound healing by epithelial cell proliferation and migration via the RhoA-JNK signaling pathway. It is also vital in follicular development during the estrous cycle and normal fertility in female mammals. Various reports indicate the role of activin B in normal function of pancreatic β cells and in reducing the growth of renal cell carcinoma
Monoclonal Anti-Activin B recognizes human activin B.

Immunogen

purified, CHO cell-derived, recombinant human activin B.

Application

Anti-Activin B antibody may be used for immunoblotting at a working concentration of 1-2 μg/ml. The recommended working antibody concentration for ELISA is 0.5-1.0 μg/ml. For neutralization of human activin B expressed in K562 cell line, a concentration of 0.6-3.0 μg/ml is recommended.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in phosphate buffered saline containing 5% trehalose

Little is known about the role of activin B during folliculogenesis. This study investigated the expression levels of activin/inhibin subunits (βA, βB, and α), steroid enzyme, and gonadotrophin receptors in theca (TC) and granulosa cells (GC) by QPCR and activin

Activin was discovered in the 1980s as a gonadal protein that stimulated FSH release from pituitary gonadotropes and was thought of as a reproductive hormone. In the ensuing decades, many additional activities of activin were described and it was found

All major cell types in pancreatic islets express the transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta superfamily receptor ALK7, but the physiological function of this receptor has been unknown. Mutant mice lacking ALK7 showed normal pancreas organogenesis but developed an age-dependent syndrome involving
