The distinguishing feature of these media is the inclusion of a chromogenic substrate mix that produces visible color changes upon enzymatic activity of E. coli (STEC).Millichrome chromogenic media is a specialized type of culture medium used to detect and isolate specific groups of bacteria based on their ability to produce enzymes with chromogenic substrates. The package contains 5 vials, each vial sufficient for 1 liter of final media. One vial of the supplement should be rehydrated with 10 mL of sterile water and then added to 1 liter of melted STEC Millichrome plus Agar base cooled at 45-50 °C.
