UM-SCC-17A is a unique head and neck squamous carcinoma cell line isolated from the primary laryngeal carcinoma of a 48-year old female patient who failed to respond to radiation therapy and is a suitable in vitro model of H&N carcinoma studies.

All UM-SCC cell lines were derived in the lab of Dr. Thomas Carey at the University of Michigan and are exclusively distributed by Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. Access to UM-SCC cells is limited solely to those officers, employees and students of PURCHASER’s institution who need access to perform research. PURCHASER may not distribute UM-SCC cells or derivatives to third parties. PURCHASER shall comply with all applicable laws in its use and handling of the Product and shall keep it under reasonable safe and secure conditions to prevent unauthorized use or access.

UM-SCC-17A is a unique head and neck squamous carcinoma cell line isolated from the primary laryngeal carcinoma of a 48-year old female patient who failed to respond to radiation therapy. The tumor persisted and metastasized to the neck, from where the UM-SCC-17B cell line was derived from. The patient achieved long-term remission after surgery . UM-SCC-17A is negative for HPV-16, HPV-18, Hepatitis A, B, C, HIV-1 & 2 viruses and grows as tightly packed colonies or islands.
UM-SCC-17A was established at the University of Michigan with written informed consent obtained from the patient and with the approval of the study by the Medical School Institutional Review Board.

Quality
• Each vial contains ≥ 1X106 viable cells.
• Cells are tested by PCR and are negative for HPV-16, HPV-18, Hepatitis A, B, C and HIV-1 & 2 viruses.
• Cells are negative for mycoplasma contamination.
• Each lot of cells are genotyped by STR analysis to verify the unique identity of the cell line.

Storage and Stability
UM-SCC-17A cells should be stored in liquid nitrogen. The cells can be cultured for at least 10 passages after initial thawing without significantly affecting the cell marker expression and functionality.
