General description

A low dimensional carbon nanoplatelet with a lateral dimension of about 2-3μ and a few layer thick. It is slightly oxidized (content of oxygen around 2%) yielding to a superior dispersion behavior in different solvent/matrix. It has been used with success as anti-corrosion additive in powder coating formulation among other properties.

Application

  • Graphene (nano)composite materials
  • Conductive coatings
  • Anti-corrosion coatings
  • Conductive Inks
  • Energy Storage
  • Electrode materials

A novel route is proposed to produce graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) and graphene sheets. The natural graphite flakes were directly exfoliated by ultrasonication in formic acid. A stable graphene aqueous dispersion was obtained using the as-produced GNPs after two processing steps:

Commercial graphene nanoplatelets in the form of optically transparent thin films on F-doped SnO(2) (FTO) exhibited high electrocatalytic activity toward I(3)(-)/I(-) redox couple, particularly in electrolyte based on ionic liquid (Z952). Advanced technologies for energy conversion and storage are widely sought after for their potential to improve consumer and electronic device performance as well as for the prospect of reducing the societal and environmental impact of energy generation.

Since its discovery little more than a decade ago,1 the two-dimensional (2D) allotrope of carbon—graphene—has been the subject of intense multidisciplinary research efforts.
