General description

Buffered Peptone Water broth is rich in nutrients and produces high resuscitation rates for sub-lethally injured bacteria, and enables intense growth. The phosphate buffer system prevents bacterial damage caused by changes in the pH of the medium. Peptone, obtained by the enzymatic digest of casein, acts as a source of carbon, nitrogen, vitamins, and minerals, while sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance.

The Readybag® sachets are gamma-irradiated (10-20 kGray). Each sachet contains 29 g of granulated Buffered Peptone Water broth for 125 g test samples, to which 1125 ml of sterile water is added.

Application

Buffered Peptone Water is suitable for the preliminary non-selective enrichment of bacteria, particularly pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae such as Salmonella and Cronobacter, from food and animal feed, water, and other materials. It is also used for the dissolving, suspending, and diluting of test samples from food, animal feed, and other materials.
